Royal Companion (1968)

$195 (plus shipping if more than 50 miles from Detroit)

Meet “Janet,” a working Royal Companion typewriter from 1968 that a school nurse in Georgia used to type up notes home.

Made in Japan by Silver-Seiko (of watch fame) for the renowned Royal typewriter company, all of this ultraportable typewriter’s keys strike and fall back well. The carriage moves smoothly, and the bell rings clearly at the end of each line.

This 1960s lightweight manual typewriter features a classic serif typeface in elite, which is a comfortable 12 characters per inch. Please see the photos for a type sample. It has a fresh black ribbon installed so that it’s ready to capture your words right out of the box.

Please note the top panel covering the type basket sits in place rather than snapping into place because the original over 50 year old rubber grommets made to secure it have worn away. This doesn’t affect the look or function of the typewriter, it’s just something to keep in mind when you move it.

“Janet” measures about 12 inches X 12 inches X 4 inches and arrives with its original matching plastic case-top to protect it in transit.

Please be sure to specify "Royal Companion Janet” when contacting DTW to purchase this typewriter.
