Olympia Traveller C

$140 (plus shipping if outside of the Detroit area)

Meet “Steve,” a working Olympia Traveller C typewriter from 1995 that a precocious third-grader used to help him run for class president.

“Steve” has a standard serif typeface in pica, which is a comfortable 10 characters per inch. Please see photos for a type sample. It comes with a fresh black-and-red ribbon installed, so you will be ready to type right out of the box.

The carriage moves well, the bell rings at the end of each line, and all of its keys strike and fall back smoothly. Please note that the bottoms of the capital letters sit slightly below the bottoms of the lower case letters. Again, see type sample for detail. It has been priced lower to reflect this and its 1990s vintage.

While 30 years old, this portable typewriter is an example of the last round of manual machines made before everyone switched to computers. So, as you’d expect this Traveller C is made of lightweight plastic and metal and is best for beginning typists who expect to write in short bursts rather than making long documents.

Though it isn’t as substantial as most older models made before word processors became the norm, this is still a real typewriter and not a plaything.

Additionally, the typewriter is in good cosmetic condition, with nice curved lines that look stylish on any desktop. It is approximately 12” x 12” x 4” and only weighs a few pounds. It arrives in its original hard plastic casetop, which is in good condition and protects the machine well on the go.

International buyers (outside of the USA), please contact us before purchase to arrange shipping.

For shipment, we take great care in packing each typewriter well, with the carriage stabilized, the type basket packed so the letters don’t move, plenty of bubble wrap cocooning the machine, and a sturdy box that snugly fits all of the packing material cushioning the machine.

After purchase, we will send you a custom video showing some basic instructions for using your machine, as well as the packing process of your typewriter.
