Cursive Olympia SM4
$575 (plus shipping if outside of the Detroit area)
Meet “Dolores” a CURSIVE Olympia SM4 typewriter from 1960 that a suburban Detroit homemaker bought to manage the household.
Made in Germany, this portable typewriter is in very good mechanical condition. The carriage moves smoothly, all of its keys strike and fall back well and the bell signaling the end of each line rings clearly.
This vintage typewriter types in a beautiful cursive typeface, which is 11 characters per inch (continental elite). Please see photos for a type sample. With a metal body that is all curves in green crinkle-finish paint with contrasting darker green keys. it has a black ribbon freshly installed for your convenience, and retains its original metal ribbon spools. An additional brand new ribbon and a 10-sheet set of vintage onion skin paper will also be included.
Olympias are known as precision-built machines meant to be workhorses for decades. No wonder writers including playwright David Mamet and comedy legend Stan Laurel preferred SM4s. Cosmetically, this 65-year-old gem is also in very good shape, with no blemishes of note.
This viridescent wonder arrives securely clamped into its original wooden suitcase-style case, which is lined in grey felt. Its original owner has added a touch of red and gold fabric to the exterior, for a bit of flair.
For shipment, we take great care in packing each typewriter well, with the carriage stabilized, the type basket packed so the letters don’t move, plenty of bubble wrap cocooning the machine, and a sturdy box that snugly fits all of the packing material cushioning the machine.
After purchase, we will send you a custom video showing some basic instructions for using your machine, as well as the packing process of your typewriter.
